Dear Family and Friends,
I have recently returned from a life changing 9-day trip to the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Kibera is one of the largest and poorest slums in Africa. Over 400,000 people live jammed packed together in roughly 3 square miles with no running water, plumbing, or anything like the comforts and conveniences most of us consider necessary to function on a daily basis. Kibera is a heartbreaking place where adults and children often go to bed hungry in overcrowded 10x12 rusty tin huts. It’s a place where the only source of water available is filled with bacteria and waterborne parasites that bring sickness and disease to all who drink it.
Kibera is truly one of the world’s most destitute and forgotten places and yet I was fortunate to have the privilege and opportunity to work alongside The Bucket Ministry in bringing the light of God’s love and compassion to the people of Kibera. The Bucket Ministry is so named after the unique bucket and filter they provide. This unique approach offers each recipient family a way to turn bacteria ridden water into clean, drinkable water. By following up with 3 personal visits to each recipient home, the ministry is not only able to insure the bucket and filter are functioning correctly, but that the people are given an opportunity to receive Christ and be connected to a local church near their home. The Bucket Ministry’s goal is to provide 95,000 homes in Kibera with the gift of a bucket and filter along with the opportunity to consider the Gospel and salvation in Christ. In this way The Bucket Ministry offers a life changing humanitarian solution alongside the soul saving transformation of the gospel.
Some ask, “Why does God allow such terrible conditions to exist on earth?” But maybe the better question is “Why do we?” Especially when we have the resources needed to make such a practical difference in the lives of people so less fortunate than us? You can give the gift of clean water to a family for as little as $5.00 a month. Please join me in contributing whatever you can afford to The Bucket Ministry. Become part of the light and hope God is bringing to the slums of Kibera. Share in the incredible mission of bringing God’s love through the gift of clean, safe, drinking water to the people of Kibera.
